We Are The Champions
Wolves Women have been promoted back to the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division for the first time since 2007 and have done so in style.
Following a 4-1 victory over Leafield Athletic, Wolves were crowned Champions of the Midlands Combination League with one game still remaining.
Promotion comes on the back of an impressive season in which the team only lost one league game, reached two cup finals and scored 78 goals.
Wolves Community Trust Sport's Manager Laura Milburn said of the team's achievements: “I am delighted that Wolves Women have been crowned champions. This is a culminations of years of hard work since relegation. A number of players from our youth set up have made the step-up into the first team this season and made excellent contributions. Credit must go to staff and players alike. We are extremely proud of them.”
Manager James Astle, who shed a small tear upon promotion being confirmed said: “Congratulations to the girls. They deserve it after a season of hard work, they have been brilliant and I couldn't be more pleased. They are an excellent group of players who deserve all the plaudits they are getting.”
Wolves Women still have two games remaining the season. Saturday 15th April sees them end their league campaign with an away trip to Radcliffe Olympic, whilst on Sunday 22nd April, they will be attempting to add to their silverware as they take on their closest league rivals, Stoke City in the final of the League Cup. The game is being played at the home of Stafford Rangers Football Club and kicks off at 1.00pm.
