PL Kicks plays Golf

The Premier League Kicks Project worked in partnership with the 3 Hammers Golf Club and England Golf to offer young people who regularly attend the project in Wolverhampton a chance

to enjoy coaching from an experienced Golf Professional and use the fantastic golfing facilities.

The project was six weeks in duration and the sessions were delivered every Friday. During the first week of the project, young people took part in expert coaching on the driving range and were given tuition on their swing technique and practising chipping and pitching shots. In addition, young people analysed footage of a professional's technique and they discussed what they learned for the video and how they could put this into practice to improve their own technique.

The following week, the young people moved onto the drive technique, competing with each other on how far they could hit the ball but also giving each other encouragement and advice. After learning the basic shot techniques, it was time to get on the short course! This allowed them to play competitively on the challenging short course at 3 Hammers. As the sessions continued the young people recorded scores to track progress and created a league table.

On the final week, 3 Hammers offered the young people the opportunity to return to the facility with various discounted options to continue to practice what they had learned over the sessions. Over the six weeks, 7 young people benefited from this initiative, learning new skills and techniques to master the games of golf.

Sam Flatley, Premier League Kicks Project Officer said

"This was a great opportunity for the young people to experience some expert coaching as well as learn new skills which will hopefully see them continue to play golf in the future".

The Premier League Kicks Project is delivered in Whitmore Reans and Bilston, with opportunity for young people aged 9 - 18 to take part in fun and social football sessions in their community.
