Wolves Aid Supports Family Project

HALOW (Birmingham) staff and volunteers were paid a visit by Jack Price to celebrate their award from Wolves Aid last month.

The branch of the charity, based at HMP Featherstone Visitor's Centre, Featherstone Prison Wolverhampton, were successful in obtaining a three year grant for a total of £19,071.00.

The charity works with prison establishments to co-ordinate Visitor's Centres at HMP Birmingham, HMP Stafford, HMP Featherstone, HMYOI Brinsford, HMP Oakwood and HMYOI Swinfen Hall and provides services to prisoner's families to help them overcome the problems faced by having a family member in custody. They believe in the importance of maintaining good family ties as part of a successful rehabilitation of offenders.

The centre at Featherstone offers a tea bar facility both at the Visitor's Centre and in the prison, advice and guidance and Play Workers that put on events and activities for the children of the families when visiting.

The award is specifically for volunteer expenses, which are vital to the running of the centre and will contribute towards recruiting more volunteers, their travel expenses and personal development including providing advice and guidance to families and how to be an effective listener.

Jack was given a tour of the centre on his visit and heard about the work that the centre does with the families and children and what a difference it will make to have extra volunteers to sustain and possibly increase the provision of service that is offered. Gulzar Jutla, Centre Manager said

"It is a great pleasure for our organisation to have received the donation for our volunteers and its well appreciated. We would like to say a big thanks to Wolves Aid".
